Although the FinTech sector and the structures supporting it has grown exponentially in the last few years, it requires more. Financial inclusion, increasing and improving access to digital financial services such as savings, credit, investment, insurance, and retirement products in Africa will elevate the standard of living across the continent, help businesses thrive, become sustainable, and scale outside the region. The HackWeakEnd Conference 2020 will look at the FinTech industry and the various ways technology can impact Financial Services.
Sessions will focus on digitization, retail payments systems, financial inclusion, sustainable business models, and revenue administration. We will look at best practices in the financial services sector, how technology can improve the way business is transacted both in high and low-level business models, and ways in which more unbanked can gain access to financial services, mobile money and virtual saving. From discussions on introducing and integrating international remit systems to papers focusing on digital currencies and blockchain technology, we will present incisive and insightful FinTech discussions relevant to Africa’s future.

The Gambia is one of the smallest countries in Africa, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in appeal. Widely known as the Smiling Coast of Africa and one of Africa’s best tourist & travel destination, The Gambia remains largely unspoilt, un-commercialised and full of potential for development. It is the nearest English-speaking destination to Europe, aligned with the UK on the Greenwich Meridian Time, and comes with guaranteed sunshine all year round. The country’s beauty and appeal as a world-class tourist destination is undeniable but The Gambia is so much more than that.
In our quest for stimulating development, the HackWeakEnd aims to challenge the country’s over-reliance on tourism and define a sustainable framework for finance and economy, capital investment, human resource endowment, existing and potential tourist markets, seasonality issues and human capital development through discussions, networking and impactful sessions. With a cross-section of FinTech experts and enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, investors, government representatives, academics, and corporate and non-profit leaders in attendance, the HackWeakEnd provides the ideal setting to discuss and drive change within the region.
